Rome Wasn't Built in a Day, Don't Expect This To Be
Often times there is an expectation with life changing choices. I'm not above thinking I will see instant changes, but I don't and I shouldn't. However, I want to begin utilizing the knowledge I have been acquiring about the different herbs and their medicinal properties, so I got squirrely when thinking about where to begin. I asked my beloved about what I should start with and being the rational one that he is simply asked, "Don't you already use this stuff in your cooking?" I was to close to see the bigger picture, I was using the herbs in my cooking, so that is where I chose to focus.
Now to clarify, I'm not talking diets. I'm talking about experimenting and adding playing with different combinations of herbs and spices to my day to day meals I enjoy making. And from my years of cooking with my mom I followed my nose. Your five senses are very much a big part of being able to do what you do throughout your day. When it comes to seasoning your nose can tell you what works and what doesn't, without having to traumatize your poor tongue. When you don't let your nose do the sniffing it can go bad, I learned this the hard way in Mrs. Burke's Basic Foods course. My two kitchen partners decided to make eggnog from scratch and unbeknownst to me they did not use a recipe, so when they asked me to taste it, I did without thinking as I was cooking another part of our final meal for the course. It was awful! My nose could have spared me such trauma, then again I wouldn't have a weird anecdote to tell you about the importance of following your nose. When things smell good, they often taste good. Their are always the rare exceptions, but usually those are non-edible materials.
To kind of bring things full circle, to avoid feeling like a failure at the start of a new direction in your life, try to focus on the areas where you may already be doing something and build from their. It keeps you from getting overwhelmed and it opens the door to success more often than failure.
Later next week, I will share a recipe for homemade eggnog that is tasty and so easy to make. Nothing like my experience in my Basic Foods class. LOL I also will share a bit about what I've learned about one of the key ingredients that you use in eggnog as well as its benefits to your well-being.
Feel free to leave comments, suggestions for posts, and your questions.
